Project Life 2013 - Week 9

Have you heard about Project Life? It’s a back-to-basics approach to memory keeping that l am using this year to record our 2013. Check out my initial post on Project Life here.

So this is the hard part of Project Life – sticking with it, even when you don’t have time and there is so much else going on.  I know for me, if l fall too far behind….that will be the end of it.  I currently need to catch up on two weeks, so instead of working through those weeks l spent what time l had doing this week’s layout.  It’s so much more motivating to be capturing memories and recording events as they happen….rather than retrospectively.

I’ll gradually work through Week 7 and 8.  I’ve got them planned out, just need to do the journaling and print my photos out.  Meanwhile l can concentrate on recording the coming week and all that it holds.

I guess your level of commitment really depends on how much you want to do Project Life.  l watched others do Project Life for around 12 months before l decided to take the plunge.  I saw how much they enjoyed the process, and how much joy and perspective it gave them.  I've had glimpses of that, and l really want to see what Project Life brings to my life in 2013.  I really do believe it is so much more than sticking photos in an album.

Some ideas l thought l would share from this week’s layout.

1.     Keep the focus on getting it done. This is advice to myself.  In years to come, will l really care about the colour palette, the embellishment and the flow of the layout ?  Nope.  It will be about the photos and the memories recorded.  So next time l am standing there with three different shades of orange paper…..

2.     Use the self timer on your camera.  I love the photo in the bottom right hand corner, and will cherish it for many reasons.  If l hadn’t of started playing with my camera’s self timer late last year…l would have never captured this memory.  If you haven’t use your camera’s self timer to capture photos with you actually in them…..don’t put it off, you will not regret it.

3.     Consider Studio Calico’s Project Life Kit.  In this week’s layout l have used five elements from Studio Calico’s Project Life kit.  Each month Studio Calico puts together a kit of cards and embellishments, especially for Project Life layouts.  If you are looking for a range of products to use in your layouts, l would strongly recommend checking them out.  I’ve said it before, for someone living in regional Australia – it is a god send.

Till next time…..

  1. I totally agree with the focus on getting it done. It really won't matter what your colour scheme was down the road :) Your pages look great - love all the white space you have going on!

    1. Thanks Sue, great to have you visit and leave a comment.
It's a real balancing act between producing something that you like the look of and are happy with.....and actually getting it finished. :-)

  2. Hi Chrisy!

I saw your post on SC and came over to check out your blog. It and your PL pages look great. :) I am in my second year of PL and love it. :) I love your more journalling focused pages - I struggle more with whittling the photos down so I can fit my journalling in. :)

    Thanks for the inspiration,
