Project Life 2013 - Week 4

Four weeks of Project Life complete = a pat on the back for me !

The big Project Life news from here is that my January Studio Calico Project Life kit arrived.  Yes finally.  My days of stalking the post office are over (well until mid-February l guess).  International mail takes a while to arrive down here in rural Australia, but it was worth the wait.

I just devoured the contents, sitting in my car out the front of the post office.  I didn’t even get home before l had busted open the box.  To say l am pleased with the contents is probably an understatement.  Like l said last week – for someone with minimal access to the latest products, this is a god send.  Still can’t get over the price as well. Great value.

AND now the February Project Life kit has been released, and l can’t wait to get my hands on those wood veneer cards – simply divine!

Some ideas l thought l would share from this week’s layout.

1.     Include your child’s artwork Along with capturing all of Bella’s funny little sayings, l really want to include her artwork in our Project Life album.  They are a part of our everyday life, and l love seeing what she brings home from school.  This week l included a picture directly into a pocket, and two more into an A4 insert.

2.     Include the numbers from your everyday life.  I really like this idea. Numbers are such a big part of our life, and really add a lot of context to your project life layouts.  This week l included our weekly rainfall total, but you could also include the temperature, the number of emails or SMS you received, the cost of your electricity bill, how many kilometres you drive everyday……

3.     Use title cards, fillers and other embellishments to create a uniform colour palette.   So here’s the deal, l love the busy, colourful layouts other people do. But when it came to me doing it myself, l just couldn’t do it. I found myself wanting a controlled palette and room around my photos so they could breath. Go figure J

4.     Limit inserts.  If you are after a simple approach to Project Life, l would recommend limiting the number of inserts.  Even though both of my inserts this week are super simple, they really did increase the amount of time and thought that went into this week’s layout.

Till next week ……

Please click on the images below to see them in more detail.

And, as l mentioned in this post here l’ve included a few surprises that l received from CHA in this week’s layout.

  1. It is so exciting to get new scrapping materials. One of my de-clutter goals this year is to USE what I have so I have been sorting through all my stuff and it is like receiving a package of new - totally forgot I had some things. Becky, Ali and Lisa Brown are my top three scrappers. Looking forward to seeing your numbers layout from the Studio Calico kit.

  2. Great layouts. I love using my kids' artwork in my layouts and they really love seeing them. Great idea to include numbers that are in our lives.

  3. Wow Chrisy, that's an insert full of CHA goodness! Very nice. Agree with you though that inserts take up quite a bit of extra time! I also find that limiting inserts means I can keep an entire year to one album.

    1. Nice to see you again Ronnie !
Definitely a consideration isn’t it. I’ve seen some people use up to three albums for a years worth of Project Life. If you were planning on recording a number of years in this manner, you would certainly accumulate some albums!
